Match Report: Taunton Tigers Under 16 Mens Team — 9 December 2006

Taunton Tigers vs Dorset Storm

This away trip was a potential banana skin for the Tigers especially with the match against Solent Kestrels looming on the Sunday. In the 1st quarter, Tigers looked much more comfortable against the Dorset zone defence but were unable to finish off with baskets, poor defence allowed the Storm back into the game.

However the 2nd quarter was a completely different story with Tigers this time able to finish off with scores. Jack Murphy increased his improvement with better patience offensively, Murphy ended up with a solid 12 points. Joe Randall once again showed his ability to score both inside and outside finishing with a joint team high of 15 points. Coaches Carter and Scarborough were particularly impressed with the way Guard George Freeman was able to run the offence and look after the ball.

With Tigers up 65 – 36 at half time the Coaches were able to rest players for the next day's game, this gave excellent opportunity for bench players to gain valuable game time and increase their confidence and experience. Pip Anderson showed his athletic ability with big rebounds and good finishing, Anderson also scored 15 points. Guards Ben Richards, Ricky Richards and Ed Surtees gained excellent experience with having to look after the ball and the team. Ed Mortimer, like Murphy, showed his improved progression to score underneath the hoop, with more time in training Mortimer has the potential to push his case for a starting 5 spot.

All in all this was an ideal game for the team in preparation for the cup match against Solent, what was pleasing was that the whole team scored for the first time this season.

Final Score: Taunton Tigers 88 – 52 Dorset Storm
